Rooibos is often blended with other herbs to enhance its flavor—but did you know that Rooibos on its own can have different taste profiles?

During the cutting and grading process, Rooibos is produced in various forms, including long cut, short cut, fine cut, granules, and even powder. Short cut leaves tend to deliver a richer, sweeter flavor, while the stems offer more earthy notes. Together they bring out a hint of caramel or vanilla flavor.

Most supermarket tea bags contain a blend of short cut leaves, stems, and sometimes Rooibos dust to intensify the flavor. Generally, the higher the leaf content, the richer the taste and the higher the grade. Premium rooibos should have a deep rich reddish brown color.

Recently, Rooibos espresso and instant Rooibos, made from granules or powder, have also gained popularity. These highly concentrated forms offer elevated antioxidant levels and can be a great alternative for those seeking a naturally caffeine-free beverage.
